On Wednesday, June 29 at 9:48 pm, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated an traffic accident involving a child pedestrian that occurred near the intersection of Chestnut Drive and Highway 18 in Hull, IA.

Jessica Chinn, age 16, of Rock Rapids, IA was operating a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. Chinn had been parked on Chestnut Drive. When she began to drive northbound, Jose Rodriguez, age 7, of Hull attempted to climb into an open sliding door on the van. Rodriguez fell from the van receiving injuries.

Rodriguez was transported to the Sioux Center Hospital by private vehicle where he was treated and released for minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.


On Thursday, June 30, at 12:57 pm, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a hit and run accident that occurred at 4260 Harrison Ave., two miles southeast of Sioux Center, IA. Upon further investigation, the driver was located.

The investigation revealed that Maria Llanos

Hernandez, age 19, of Rock Valley, IA was driving a 1998 Ford Contour southbound on Harrison Ave. She lost control of the vehicle and it entered the east ditch coming to rest against a guide wire for a power pole.No injuries were reported.

The wire sustained approximately $1,000 in damage and the car sustained approximately $1,500 in damage.

Llanos was cited for failure to maintain control.


On Tuesday, July 5 at 10:06 pm, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a person walking northbound on Hwy. 60 near Hospers, IA.

Upon further investigation the deputy arrested the person, Dale Parker, age 50 from Hospers, for Public Intoxication.


On Tuesday, July 5, at 6:38 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of an abandoned vehicle located four miles south of Orange City, IA on K

64.The sheriff’s office located a white 1996 Cadillac Seville parked alongside the road. The vehicle was towed d ueto the road construction going on at that location.

It was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen from Des Moines, IA.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and Des Moines Police Department are investigating the incident.


On Monday, July 4 at 8:07 pm, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a traffic accident that occurred at

3828 Hickory Ave, one mile east of Sioux Center, IA.

Joel Schuiteman, age 52, of Sioux Center was driving a 1997 Ford F


250 and pulling a 1997 Beachcomber traveltrailer southbound on Hickory Ave. Trevor Vanmiddendorp, age 24, of Hull, IA, was also southbound on

Hickory Ave., behind Schuiteman. Vanmiddendorp was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy. Schuiteman was

attempting to turn into his driveway when Vanmiddendorp slid past Schuiteman and ended up in the east ditch.

Trevor and his two passengers Jennifer Vanmiddendorp, age 27, and Anna Vanmiddendorp, 9 months old, were transported to the Sioux Center Hospital by the Sioux Center Ambulance. All three were treated and released for minor injuries.

Schuiteman’s vehicle and trailer was not damaged. Vanmiddendorp’s vehicle received approximately $9,000 damage.  Schuiteman was cited for improper brake lights.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sioux Center Fire and Ambulance and the Sioux Center Police.


The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a missing persons case along with the Worthington,

MN Police Department. The sheriff’s office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating the individual.

On Monday, June 27, 2011, it is believed that the missing person, Lucia Chilel Perez, age 41, of Worthington, MN was in the Sioux County area searching for employment. Lucia is described as a Hispanic female approximately 5’2”, 140 pounds, with long black hair. She was traveling with a man by the name of Bernardino Ramirez

Perez, who is described as a short, dark skinned Hispanic male, with a full beard and long hair; he isapproximately 35 to 40 years old.

The family and friends of Lucia have not heard from her since Monday.


Perez is considered to be a person of interest; he has since fled the area and in an attempt to evade law enforcement authorities.
