Northwest Iowa — One new death and seventy-three new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday in the four northwesternmost Iowa counties, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.
The death was a resident of O’Brien County. Fifty-five northwest Iowans have now died in connection with COVID-19 since the pandemic started — twenty-two in Sioux County, twenty-five now in O’Brien County, and eight in Lyon County.
In the last 24 hours, O’Brien County was up 5 cases, at 1105 cases since the pandemic started. Sioux County was up 35 cases at 3278. Lyon County was up 32 cases at 834, and Osceola County was up 1 at 445.
Here are some numbers that show — out of all the cases reported, how many of those people are still living. Osceola County leads our four counties since no deaths have been reported there — so it’s still at 100 percent. While Sioux County has had by far the most cases, they are actually in second place for this statistic at over 99.33 percent. Lyon is next with 99.04 percent, and then it’s O’Brien County at 97.74 percent of cases still living.
The percentage of the population who have lost their lives to covid is VERY low, at under two-tenths of a percent in O’Brien County. Lyon and Sioux counties have lost under one-tenth of one percent of their population. And as previously stated, Osceola County hasn’t lost anyone to COVID to date.
As far as active cases Lyon County has 315, Sioux County has 954, O’Brien County has 495, and Osceola has 180.
Out of the 834 Lyon County residents who have had COVID-19, 511 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 61%.
Out of the 3278 Sioux County residents who have had COVID-19, 2302 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 70%.
Out of the 1105 O’Brien County residents who have had COVID-19, 585 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 53%.
Out of the 445 Osceola County residents who have had COVID-19, 265 of them have recovered, for a recovery rate of about 60%.
