The Defender basketball teams will be traveling to Jamestown, North Dakota to face Jamestown University on Wednesday, December 4. The women’s game will start at 6:00 and the men will follow at about 8:00.

The Jamestown women are receiving votes in the NAIA Division II coaches’ poll and stand 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC. The Jimmies have wins over Doane (78-56) and Dakota Wesleyan (71-69) and their losses are to Northwestern (78-51) and Mount Marty (55-53).  The Jimmies also lost to Mayville State in non-conference play on November 1.

The Jamestown men are 7-4 overall and 1-3 in the GPAC. The Jimmies lost to Winnipeg to start the year back on October 18 before reeling off seven wins in a row including a conference win over Doane (97-71). The Jimmies then lost three games in a row to Dakota Wesleyan (75-65), Northwestern (103-94) and Mount Marty (93-88 overtime).

The Defender women are off to a program best 10-1 record and stand 3-1 in the GPAC with wins over Dakota Wesleyan (88-86, Northwestern (92-84)and Briar Cliff (93-58).  Dordt’s loss is to Morningside and came on the road on November 16 (81-78).

Erika Feenstra scores 21.9 points per game with 6.7 rebounds and she is making 69.2 percent of her field goals. Karly Gustafson scores 10.4 points per game with a team high 6.9 rebounds and she is making 64.7 percent of her field goals. Rachel Evavold adds 9.3 points per game with 5.2 rebounds and she is making 64 percent of her field goals. Gabby Kreykes is at 8.5 points per game with a team high 30 steals through 11 games and Bailey Beckman’s average is 7.5 points per game. Payton Harmsen has converted a team high 23 three-point baskets and she has 20 steals while scoring 6.7 points per game.

The Defenders are 8-3 this season and 2-2 in league play after earning a pair of home wins over Northwestern (86-68) and Briar Cliff (82-63). The Defenders’ losses in GPAC play are to Dakota Wesleyan (79-78) and Morningside (96-88). Dordt has won four games in a row with wins over Dickinson State and Peru State last weekend.

Garrett Franken scores 15.5 points per game and is averaging 8.5 rebounds for the Defenders. He is converting 46 percent of his field goals. Jesse Jansma scores 13.3 points per game while Cade Bleeker adds 9.7 and Marcus Winterfeld adds 8.6 points per game and Chad Barkema’s average is up to 8.8 while Josh Van Lingen is at 7.0. Barkema is also taking in 5.5 rebounds per game.

Jamestown’s women will travel to the College of Saint Mary on December 7. The Jamestown men will host Dickinson State on December 9 before facing Morningside on December 14.

The Defenders will host Midland on Saturday, December 7 in both women’s and men’s play and the women will host Bellevue on Tuesday night, December 10 at 6:00.
