Rock Valley, Iowa — A farm building and its contents on a dairy west of Rock Valley were destroyed in a fire on Sunday night, and six area fire departments helped put out the blaze.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, their communications center received the 911 call just after 7:40 p.m. of a building on fire at a farm property on 1760 300th Street, eight miles west of Rock Valley, on a property owned by Ysselstein Dairy.

They say the Rock Valley Fire Department responded to the call and upon their arrival, they discovered a machine shed fully engulfed by fire, and assistance from other area fire departments was requested.

No injuries were reported.

The building contained hay bales and dairy equipment but no livestock were present or injured. Damages are estimated at $750,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Rock Valley Fire Department reports that the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa fire departments from the cities of Hull, Doon, Inwood, and Sioux Center, as well as the Hudson, South Dakota Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Rock Valley Fire Chief.
