Dordt Basketball At Morningside Saturday

The Defender basketball teams will be traveling to Sioux City on Friday, November 16 to face Morningside. The women’s game will start at 2:00 with the men getting underway at 4:00.

The Morningside women are 4-1 this season and 1-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference after an 80-52 win over the College of Saint Mary on November 13. The loss for the Mustangs was to Grand View on November 7 by an 83-81 score.

The Defender women are 7-0 this season and average 89.4 points per game while allowing 58.0 points per contest.  Dordt outrebounds team 43.1-31.6 and convert 50.2 percent of their field goals while allowing teams to make 36.9 percent of their attempts.

Erika Feenstra is scoring 22.1 points per game and has made 69.8 percent of her field goal attempts.  Feenstra also grabs 5.3 rebounds per game and has seven steals.  She has attempted a team high 43 free throws.  Rachel Evavold scores 9.1 points per game and she is grabbing 4.1 rebounds and Karly Gustafson is at 8.7 points per game and is a 69.4 percent field goal shooter and she’s the leading rebounder with a 6.0 average. Gabby Kreykes has an 8.6 points per game average with 4.1 rebounds.  Bailey Beckman adds 8.4 points per game  and has 16 steals which is second to Kreykes’s 18.

The Morningside men are 4-0 this season and have not played in the GPAC this season. The Mustangs have wins over Indiana Tech, Cornerstone, Benedictine and Missouri Valley this season.

The Defender men are 4-2 this season with a loss to Mayville State on November 2 96-80 and a 79-78 loss to Dakota Wesleyan in the GPAC opener on November 13for the lone blemish on the record. Dordt has won two games in a row since that loss with a seven point win over Viterbo and 94-72 victory over Ozark Christian.

Dordt is outscoring teams 85.2-75.3 and is outrebounding teams 43.2-36.7. Dordt converts 45.2 percent of its field goals and 35 percent of its three-point attempts. Garrett Franken leads the team with a 14.7 points per game average and 8.2 rebounds. Jess Jansma’s scoring average is 12.0 and Cade Bleeker is at 10.2.  Bleeker has 13 made three-point baskets and Jansma has 11. Zach Bussard is scoring 9.8 points per game with 5.2 rebounds. Marcus Winterfeld adds 8.7 and Josh Van Lingen 8.3. Chad Barkema is second on the team with a 6.2 rebounds per game average and Ben Gesink leads the team with 14 assists.

Dordt will be at home on Wednesday night to face Northwestern and will host Briar Cliff on Saturday, November 23.

Morningside will travel to Doane on November 20 before hosting Hastings on November 23.
