The Dordt Defender volleyball team swept the Ravens from Benedictine on Friday afternoon at the Park University Classic in Parkville, Missouri.

Dordt’s first set win was decided near the midpoint of the contest when Dordt turned an 11-8 advantage into a 16-10 edge with kills by four different players accounting for four of the five points in the surge. The Ravens got back to within 20-18 before Dordt scored three in a row on a Karsyn Winterfeld kill and two Benedictine attack errors. Dordt eventually won it on a block by Ava Van Soelen and Jessi De Jager.

Set two had Dordt build a 9-3 advantage right away and then a six point run pushed the Defenders from up 10-6 to up 16-6 as Winterfeld recorded a couple ace serves in the run.  Dordt was able to hold a 23-15 lead and went on to win 25-18.

Set three resulted in a fast start for Dordt again, this time getting up 14-5. This time Benedictine crawled all the way back to tie the set at 23-23 but Dordt stopped the five point run with a Jori Bronner kill followed by a Bronner and Ally Krommendyk block to win 25-23.

The Dordt Defender volleyball team started slow but closed quickly in improving to 8-3 this season with a 3-1 win over Huston-Tillotson on Saturday, September 7 in Parkville, Missouri.

The Defenders did have a 6-3 lead in set one after five straight points but allowed a 7-0 run to go from up 9-8 to down 15-9. That run proved to be enough for the Rams in winning the set 25-18.

The Defenders were able to regroup in set two, this time using a run of their own to go from down 8-7 to up 11-8 with a service error by the Rams, an Emma Bousema ace, an attack error and a kill by Ava Van Soelen. Dordt never relinquished the lead the rest of the set and won it 25-22.

Set three saw Dordt go up 15-10 and then close the set on a 10-0 run with Karsyn Winterfeld accounting for three kills.  Huston Tillotson tried to rebound and had a 6-4 lead in set four but Dordt tied it at 6-6 with a Jori Bronner kill followed by a Winterfeld kill and then a five point run put Dordt up 12-8. The lead shrunk to 14-13.

Corrina Timmermans started the run with a kill and Ally Krommendyk had one as well. Both Timmermans and Krommendyk got credit for a block in what turned out to be a five point run.  With the 19-13 cushion the Defenders closed with a 6-4 advantage and won the set on a kill by Bronner for the 25-17 final.

Dordt concluded play at the Park Classic in Parkville, Missouri with a 3-1 loss to the number one ranked and NAIA defending national champions Park Pirates late Saturday afternoon.

Dordt fell behind 20-11 in set one and was still behind 21-14 when the Defenders rallied with seven straight points. The run started with a  Jori Bronner and Jessi De Jager block and continued another six points with Emily Feilmeier holding serve.  It was a  De Jager and Karsyn Winterfeld block that tied it but the rally stopped there with a service error and Park scored three of the next four points to secure the shaky 25-22 win.

Park recovered to lead 15-12 in set two and then controlled the rest of the set in winning 25-19.  Dordt reversed fortunes in the third set when the Defenders led 11-10. An Ava Van Soelen kill put the Defenders up 12-10 and Dordt scored eight of the next 11 points to lead 20-13. The teams traded points and Park tried to fight back but trailed 23-19 and Dordt held on to win the set on a Corrina Timmermans kill for the 25-20 win.

Park controlled set four and won the final set 25-16.
