(Sioux City, Iowa) – Midland totaled 119 points and is the preseason coaches’ selection to win the 2019 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Softball Championship.  The Warriors tallied nine first place votes. The University of Jamestown was picked to finish second with 104 points and two first place votes. Morningside, tabbed third, received the last first place vote.

Midland posted a 36-17 record last spring while posting a 16-4 record in the GPAC. The Warriors shared the regular season title with Morningside who was 29-13 overall and also 16-4 in league play. Northwestern won the GPAC tournament championship last year, defeating Midland in three games.

Jamestown was the North Star Athletic Association regular season champion going 22-3 in league play and 44-10 overall. The Jimmies season was ended by Midland in the NAIA National Championship opening round in Dodge City, Kansas.

The GPAC softball season will consist of 20 games (10 doubleheaders) and conclude with the GPAC Postseason Tournament featuring two four-team tournaments (Seeds 1,4,5,8 and Seeds 2,3,6,7) (double elimination) on May 3-5 at the sites of the top two seeds. Then the two tournament winners will play on Monday, May 7, in the Cypress Risk Management GPAC Championship (three game series) at the highest remaining seed.

Points were awarded on an 11-1 basis and coaches could not vote for their own team.
