Kassidy De Jong scored a game-high 19 points in leading No.3 Northwestern to an 88-58 win over Mount Marty in a GPAC match-up played tonight at the Bultman Center. The Red Raiders sweep the season series against the Lancers and move to 10-2 in the GPAC, 16-2 overall.

De Jong led all players with 19 points, going 7-for-13 from the field, pulled down a game-high nine rebounds and matched her career-high with seven assists. Darbi Gustafson scored 16 and Sammy Blum (13), Bre Schuiteman (12) and Haley Birks (10) were the other top scorers, giving Northwestern five players in double figures.

Northwestern raced out to a 14-4 lead after four minutes of play, getting points by four different players and capped by a three-pointer from Schuiteman. Another 9-0 run extended the Red Raiders advantage to 19 after a lay-up by Taylor VanderVelde before a three-pointer by Ali Kuca made the score 30-14 by the end of the quarter.

The Red Raiders lead hovered around 20 points for most of the second quarter until the hosts outscored Mount Marty 10-2 over the final two-plus minutes to give Coach Yaw’s squad a 57-29 advantage as the teams headed to the locker room. Both Blum and Schuiteman hit a three-pointer during the final moments to spark the run.

Coach Yaw’s squad shot 62% in the opening half, 80% (8/10) from the three-point line, compared to 38% by Mount Marty.

Gustafson and De Jong combined to score the first six points of the second half as Northwestern pushed its lead to 76-38 by the end of the third quarter. A basket by VanderVelde gave the hosts their largest lead (40) in the opening moments of the fourth quarter and the Red Raiders stayed in front by 30+ points for its entirety.

Northwestern shot 49% for the game, 59% (10/17) from the three-point line. The Red Raiders continued its dominance on the glass, outrebounding the Lancers 40-30, including 16 on the offensive end. Yaw’s squad was extremely efficient, committing only 10 turnovers and assisting on 24 of their 32 field goal attempts.

Mount Marty shot 41% for the game, 39% (10/26) from beyond the arc. Karlee McKinney scored a team-high 16 points, the only Lancers’ player in double figures.
