A stifling defensive performance in the third quarter led to a 76-55 win for the Dordt Defenders on Wednesday night in Sioux City over the Briar Cliff Chargers.

Dordt used a 25-6 third quarter advantage to pull away from the hosts and secured its fourth win in GPAC play in the process.

Dordt never trailed and built an 11-2 lead with a Baylee Tetzlaff three-point basket from the corner.   Dordt ended up settling for a 16-11 lead at the quarter break.  A three-point play by Erika Feenstra put the Defenders up 19-12 but Feenstra left moments later with her third personal foul just 2:30 into the period.

Briar Cliff cut into the lead and got it to one on two different occasions, the last time at 28-27. Rachel Evavold converted a basket with 3:19 to get Dordt up by three and the lead grew to seven before Dordt took a 34-29 halftime lead as both teams went scoreless over the final 1:33 of the half.

Dordt grabbed its first double digit lead on a Payton Harmsen three-point basket with 6:08 left in the third and the lead was 46-35 with 4:36 remaining in the period.  Briar Cliff wouldn’t score again in the quarter and Dordt went on a 13 point run to finish the period and capped it with a Mya Chmielewski basket as time expired.

Briar Cliff was unable to make a charge in the fourth quarter and Dordt maintained its advantage.
