Northwestern College will head to Madison, S.D. for a non-conference match-up against Dakota State this weekend. Tip-off at the DSU Memorial Fieldhouse is set for 7pm. Northwestern is 3-1 so far this season and Dakota State is 0-4.

The Trojans have dropped four straight games to start the season, losing to three GPAC teams; Doane, Dakota Wesleyan and Mount Marty last time out. They also were on the short end to Nebraska Christian in their second game.

Long time collegiate coach Gary Garner is in his 10th season as the head of the Dakota State program, leading his teams to four NAIA D-II National Championship tournaments. Garner also has coaching stops at Drake and Southwest Missouri State, to name a few. He returns two starters and four players from a 2018 team that finished 14-17 overall and sixth in the North Star Athletic Association regular season. They were picked to finish third in the NSAA preseason poll.

After a 3-0 start, Northwestern dropped its GPAC opener last time out, losing 88-75 at Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday night. Korver’s squad is 2-0 against teams from North Star Athletic Association, defeating both Mayville State and Valley City State.

Trent Hilbrands has led the Red Raiders in scoring the last three games, netting 20+ points in all three. Both Hilbrands and freshman Craig Sterk have scored in double figures in all four games. Jay Small, Parker Mulder and Christian Korver have scored in double figures in two games each.

Northwestern resumes GPAC play with two road games next week, beginning with Mount Marty on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 8pm.
