Rock Valley, Iowa — Rock Valley firefighters were called out again, this time to a field fire on Saturday, December 2, 2017 near Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, about 3:10 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a grass fire in the middle of the section near Highway 18 and Fir Avenue, two miles east of the Highway 18 and Main Street intersection.

The chief says the fire department saw the grass fire along the old railroad bed as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.

Eshuis says no injuries were reported. He says the fire was caused by a ditch fire that had been intentionally lit.

Chief Eshuis reports that the damage was limited to grass along the old railroad bed.

He says they used 600 gallons of water to fight the fire, and crews were on scene for about a half hour.
