1-27-13 AccidentMaurice, Iowa — Two people were taken to the hospital after an accident on Sunday morning near Maurice.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 7:20 AM, 22-year-old David Theisen of Le Mars was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala southbound on Highway 75, about a mile north of Maurice. Theisen stopped behind a disabled semi-tractor trailer; he made a U-turn and began driving northbound on Highway 75. Thirty-six-year-old Rosalva Hernandez of Sioux Center was driving a 1994 GMC Jimmy northbound on Highway 75.

Hernandez was unable to stop and struck Theisen’s vehicle.

Theisen and Hernandez were both transported to the Sioux Center Hospital by the Sioux Center Ambulance.

The Chevrolet sustained $5,000 damage. The GMC sustained $3,500 damage.

Theisen was ticketed for making an illegal U-Turn. Hernandez was ticketed for failing to reduce speed for the road conditions.

Maurice Fire and Rescue and the Sioux Center Ambulance assisted the Sheriff’s office.
