accident122112Rock Valley, Iowa — Two Hull teens were taken by helicopter to a Sioux Falls hospital after an accident on Friday afternoon near Rock Valley.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 2:45 PM, 23-year-old Dustin Vanderbrink of Rock Rapids was driving a 1994 Peterbuilt straight truck southbound on Garfield Avenue, three miles northeast of Rock Valley. Seventeen-year-old Ryan Lamfers of Hull was driving a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am northbound on Garfield Avenue. Vanderbrink was in the process of making a left onto a farm driveway when he struck the Lamfers vehicle on the roadway.

Ryan Lamfers and a passenger in his vehicle, 14-year-old Colby Lamfers of Hull were both transported to Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley by the Rock Valley ambulance. Both had sustained serious injuries and were later airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls by the Sanford Trauma 1 and Avera McKennan Careflight helicopters.

The Peterbuilt sustained approximately $7,000 in damages. The Pontiac sustained approximately $1,000 in damages.

Vanderbrink was cited for failing to yield the right of way upon making a left turn.

The Rock Valley Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Rock Valley Fire Department and Rock Valley Ambulance assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
