Republicans in the Iowa House have drafted a 154-million dollar budget plan for the state’s court system, and Representative Dwayne Alons from Hull is being singled out for his conservative views. Representative Gary Worthan, a Republican from Storm Lake, says the G-O-P plan for the courts provides the same amount of money next year that the courts have been operating with this year.Representative Todd Taylor, a Democrat from Cedar Rapids, says the G-O-P plan is too austere.

A Nebraska man has been sentenced to a suspended prison term, probation, and several other sentence stipulations after he was found to be a felon in possession of a firearm in Sioux County.

Sioux County Attorney Coleman McAllister reports that 51-year-old Dennis Dean Naig of Hubbard, Nebraska, was sentenced for the crime of Felon in Possession of Firearm, a Class D Felony. Read The Full Story…

A Sheldon man has been arrested on an assault charge.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that they investigated a domestic disturbance Monday night that occurred at a home 3 miles west of Sioux Center.  Upon further investigation it is alleged that 22-year-old Ralph Donovan Jr. of Sheldon had assaulted his girlfriend.  Donovan was arrested for Domestic Assault, a serious misdemeanor, and Driving While Suspended, a simple misdemeanor.

The Sioux Center Police Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a domestic disturbance that occurred northwest of Sheldon. Upon further investigation it is alleged that 30-year-old Joshua Kruse of Sheldon had assaulted his wife. Kruse was arrested for Domestic Assault, a serious misdemeanor. The Iowa State Patrol and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

A Hawarden man has been sentenced to ten years in prison after he pled guilty to a drug offense.

Sioux County Attorney Coleman McAllister says that 42-year-old Samuel Scott Skogman of Hawarden was sentenced for the crime of Delivery of Methamphetamine, a Class C Felony. Read The Full Story…

You may have received a card in your mail recently about the redrawing of district lines and your voting precinct. We talked to O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer about the cards.Rohwer says at that point they decided they had two options.

The cards do serve as a nice way to see what voting precinct you’re in, your polling places, congressional district, ward, and so forth.

A Boyden teen was injured in an accident on Monday.

On Monday, February 27 at 7:05 PM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Kennedy Avenue and 300th Street, one mile north of Boyden. Eighteen-year-old Mikayla Hulley of Boyden was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus northbound on Kennedy Avenue when she lost control, entered the east ditch and rolled. Hulley was transported to Sanford Hospital in Sheldon by the Boyden Ambulance for her injuries. Hulley’s vehicle sustained about $5,000 in damages. Hulley was cited for failure to maintain control. The Boyden Fire and Boyden Ambulance assisted at the scene.

A Rock Valley man was injured in an explosion at a hog confinement near Rock Valley on Saturday (25/25).
