Recognizing his years of dedication, NOAA’s National Weather Service has named Sheldon volunteer weather observer Frank Luepke a 2011 recipient of the agency’s John Campanius Holm Award for outstanding service in the Cooperative Weather Observer program.

Sioux County Attorney Coleman McAllister says that 41-year-old Bob Ray Schonrock of Sioux City, was sentenced yesterday (10/24) in Sioux County District Court for the crimes of Neglect of a Dependent Person, a Class C Felony; Possession of Prescription Drug or Device Without a Prescription, a Serious Misdemeanor; and Operating While Intoxicated.
On June 20, 2011, an Iowa State Trooper stopped a vehicle being operated by Schonrock on Highway 60 for a routine traffic infraction. On Friday, October 21 at 11:15 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested Scott Young, age 30 of Rock Valley, IA. The arrest took place in Boyden, Iowa.

On Wednesday, October 19, at 9:05 a.m., the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the north intersection of Highway 18 and 75, two miles northwest of Hull, IA.
Molly TeSlaa, age 23, of Rock Valley was stopped at a stop sign facing east at the intersection of Highway 18 and 75 driving a 1999 Chevy Astro van. TeSlaa entered the intersection going east and struck a 2000 Peterbilt driven northbound on Highway 75 by Erwin Keizer, age 45, of Sioux Center, IA. It’s the harvest season — and that means more risk of car-deer accidents in northwest Iowa.
For the next month, Iowas whitetail deer will be more active and more visible to drivers. November is the month with the highest number of deer/vehicle collisions in Iowa. Still, that trend is down, since antlerless hunting tags were significantly increased a few years ago.
